Glossary of terms

Short definitions without filler: what each word in these calculations actually means. Astrology and numerology terms gathered in one place — from arcana and ascendant to orb and karmic debt. Each one links to the page where the topic is unpacked in full.

Terms in order

Arcana
One of the 22 Major Arcana of the Tarot and, at the same time, a number from 1 to 22 in the destiny matrix. The word comes from Latin arcanum — “secret”, “hidden”: what does not reveal itself at once. read more →
Destiny matrix
A chart built from the digits of a birth date: eight rays, a golden centre and the ancestral square. Every number is reduced to the 1–22 range and read as a Tarot arcana. read more →
Reduction
Bringing a sum into the required range: digits are added until the number is ≤ 22 (matrix) or ≤ 9 (numerology). Example: 29 → 2 + 9 = 11. read more →
Natal chart
A map of the sky for the moment and place of birth: planets by sign and house plus the angles (ascendant, midheaven). Computed from astronomical ephemerides. read more →
Ascendant (rising sign)
The zodiac sign rising over the horizon at birth — the cusp of the first house. It describes the first impression and shifts by a sign roughly every two hours, so it depends on time and place. read more →
Midheaven (MC)
The highest point of the ecliptic at the moment of birth, the cusp of the tenth house. In interpretation it relates to vocation and public role. read more →
House
One of the twelve sectors of a natal chart, tied to the Earth’s daily rotation. A house answers “where in life”, a sign answers “how”, a planet answers “what”. read more →
Aspect
The angular distance between planets (conjunction 0°, sextile 60°, square 90°, trine 120°, opposition 180°). It shows how two themes of a chart interact. read more →
Orb
The tolerance within which an aspect is considered active — for example ±6° for a square. The smaller the deviation, the stronger the aspect. read more →
Retrograde
The apparent backward motion of a planet as seen from Earth — an optical effect of orbital overtaking. In a natal chart it reads as an inward accent of that planet’s theme. read more →
Transit
The position of the planets right now, as opposed to natal positions at the moment of birth. Transits are shared by everyone; the natal chart is personal. read more →
Ephemerides
Tables of exact positions of celestial bodies for any moment in time. We use Swiss Ephemeris — the same standard as professional astrological software. read more →
Moon sign
The sign the Moon occupied at birth. It governs emotions and the sense of safety; it changes every 2–3 days, so no date table can tell it. read more →
Sun sign
The familiar “zodiac sign” of horoscopes: where the Sun stood on the day of birth. It speaks of essence and will. read more →
Elongation
The angle between the Moon and the Sun. It defines the phases: 0° is a new moon, 180° a full moon. read more →
Life path number
The core number of numerology: day, month and year are reduced separately and added, with master numbers 11, 22 and 33 left intact. It describes the overall route of a life. read more →
Master number
The numbers 11, 22 and 33, which numerology does not reduce to a single digit. Not a mark of being chosen but a wider span of the same theme and a bigger demand for maturity. read more →
Karmic debt
The numbers 13, 14, 16 and 19 appearing in the intermediate sums of a date calculation. They mark a skill life suggests topping up — not a punishment. read more →
Karmic tail
A triple of numbers on the bottom ray of the matrix — from the Karma vertex to the centre. The main lesson of a life and the resource that opens after it. read more →
Karmic lesson
A digit missing from the letters of a name: the zone where a skill is still being built. Counted from the name, unlike the karmic debt, which comes from the date. read more →
Expression number
The number derived from all letters of a full name. It describes how a person shows up and realises themselves — the “delivery”, while the date gives the “route”. read more →
Angel numbers
Repeating combinations (111, 444, 11:11) noticed in everyday life. No calculation system stands behind them — it is a practice of attention, not arithmetic. read more →
Celtic Cross
The classic 10-card tarot spread: six cards form the cross of the situation, four make the staff of context. It reads as one story built from the question, not card by card. read more →
Arcana of the day
A number from 1 to 22 derived from a birth date and today’s date: the theme of the day. It is personal — two people share a date but not a day arcana. read more →
