Calculated from the day of birth: if the day is greater than 22, its digits are added. Born on the 17th — personal arcana 17 (The Star); born on the 29th — 2 + 9 = 11 (Justice). In the destiny matrix this is the “Day” position: the portrait of the personality.
Destiny
All three numbers of the date — the reduced day, month and year — are added, and the sum is reduced again to 1–22. Example: 17.05.1993 → 17 + 5 + 22 = 44 → 4 + 4 = 8. In the matrix this is the “Karma” position — the central task of a life.
Arcana of the day
A chain from the personal year: arcana of the year + month number → arcana of the month; arcana of the month + day number → arcana of the day. That makes it personal — two people share a date but not a day arcana — and it changes at midnight. The day arcana has a page of its own — with the day meaning of all 22 arcana.
An honest note: schools differ on this formula (some count from the calendar year, some from the personal one). We count from the personal year — from the birthday — and the formula above is exactly what the app uses.
Arcana of the year
Day + month of birth + the current personal year (it starts on your birthday, not on January 1), reduced to 1–22. It is the theme of the year: what the year teaches and what comes easier in it. A heavy arcana — say 13 — is not a “bad year” but a year of renewal: the outlived leaves, space opens up.
Frequently asked questions
Are the arcana of the day and the tarot card of the day the same thing?
No. The arcana of the day is computed from the birth date and the calendar day — it is deterministic. The card of the day is drawn at random and fixed until tomorrow. They may differ, and that is normal: they are two different readings.
Why does another calculator give me a different day arcana?
Schools count differently: some from the calendar year, some from the personal one (from the birthday). We count from the personal year and show the formula openly — it can be checked by hand.
Is arcana 13 for the year something to fear?
No. The thirteenth arcana in the year position means a year of completions and renewal: something outlived goes, and something new takes its place. It is a year for letting go, not holding on.
How does the personal arcana differ from the destiny arcana?
The personal one is calculated from the day of birth alone and describes character — who you are. The destiny one is calculated from the whole date and describes the task — what for. Both are part of the full destiny matrix.
