A chain of three steps; every sum is reduced to 1–22 (above 22 - the digits are added):
- Arcana of the personal year = day of birth + month of birth + the current personal year (it starts on the birthday, not on January 1).
- Arcana of the month = arcana of the year + month number.
- Arcana of the day = arcana of the month + today’s date.
That is why it is personal: the birth date is part of the chain. An honest note: schools differ here (some count from the calendar year) - we count from the personal one, exactly as the app does, and the formula is open. The other arcana of a date live in the arcana calculator.
What each arcana means in a day

The card shows a table with every tool already laid out on it. That is the shape of the day: the pieces are within reach, and the only missing move is starting.

She sits between two pillars with a book half hidden in her robe. A day that rewards the answer you have not said out loud yet.
- 3The Empress
A figure seated in a wheat field with everything around her growing. Whatever gets tended today - a meal, a room, a person - grows back.
- 4The Emperor
A stone throne with four square corners and nothing improvised about it. The dull structural jobs are the ones that pay off today.
- 5The Hierophant
Two students kneeling at the feet of a teacher who is mid-sentence. Advice moves well in both directions - ask for some, or be the one giving it.
- 6The Lovers
Two figures under an open sky, caught in the middle of a choice. Decisions made from what you actually want land better than the sensible ones.
- 7The Chariot
Two beasts harnessed to one cart, pulling in a single direction. A day for one goal; two goals today cancel each other out.

A woman closing a lion’s mouth with her bare hands and no force in it. Calm gets further than pressure before this day is over.

Water being poured between two cups without a drop spilled. A steady pace wins; nothing today actually needs to be done at speed.
- 15The Devil
Two figures wearing chains loose enough to lift off over their heads. Naming a habit out loud is most of the work of loosening it.
- 16The Tower
Lightning striking an old tower, with clear sky opening behind it. Whatever was merely propped up gets tested - that is the useful part.
- 17The Star
Someone kneeling by a pool pouring water out under a sky full of stars. Long-range plans read as realistic today rather than naive.
- 18The Moon
A path running between two towers under a half-lit sky. Hunches are carrying real information - worth writing down before they fade.
- 19The Sun
A child on horseback in full daylight with nothing hidden anywhere. Small pleasures deliver more than big plans today.

Figures rising with their arms open at the sound of a horn. Old chapters close gently, mostly by forgiving an earlier version of yourself.

Arcana of the day vs tarot card of the day
The arcana of the day is computed: one birth date + one calendar day → always the same result, however many times it is recalculated. The tarot card of the day is a reading: a card drawn at random and fixed until midnight. They may differ, and that is normal - two different views of the same day. Frequently asked questions
What is the arcana of the day today?
There is no single one to name. Sites that publish a “card of the day for everyone” are publishing a draw, which is a different instrument: one random card shown to every visitor alike. A day arcana takes your birth date as an input, so it differs from person to person on the same calendar day. The calculator above works yours out from an open formula.
When does the day arcana change?
At midnight local time: the calendar day is part of the formula, so a new day means a new arcana. This page takes “today” from the device clock, not from the server.
I got a heavy arcana - 13, 15 or 16. Is the day going to be bad?
No, and the fear is mostly attached to three English words rather than to anything in the calculation. Death, the Devil and the Tower were named centuries before anyone applied them to a single day, and the pictures are far older than the reading. As day themes they are ordinary: 13 is completion and clearing space, 15 is honesty about what one actually wants, 16 is a test of whatever was only propped up. These tend to be the useful days.
Why does another calculator give a different day arcana?
Two conventions exist and neither is a mistake. One feeds the calendar year into the chain; the other feeds the personal year, which turns over on your birthday rather than on 1 January. That is a difference of exactly one in a single term, so the two agree for anyone whose birthday has already passed this year and part company for everyone else. We use the personal year, the same as the app.
