Houses of the natal chart

If planets are the “what” and signs the “how”, the houses are the “where”: 12 areas of life, from identity and money to vocation and the inner world. Houses are tied to the Earth’s rotation and shift every few minutes, so the calculation needs an exact time and city of birth. The calculator below shows which planets landed in which houses — from real ephemerides.

Houses are the stages, planets the actors. How your particular play sounds is what Luna tells you: a full chart reading by voice, in plain words.

The meaning of each house

  1. 1

The face a person shows the world: appearance, manner, first moves. Planets here color the whole personality and shape how life meets them at the door.

  2. 2

Money, possessions, and self-worth: what a person values, how they earn and keep resources, and what makes them feel secure on solid ground.

  3. 3

Everyday communication: conversations, siblings, short trips, learning. This is where curiosity lives and information moves in and out.

  4. 4

Roots and home: family, ancestry, the private base a person retreats to. The foundation everything else in the chart is built upon.

  5. 5

Joy in its purest form: creativity, romance, play, and children. Whatever fills this house shows how a person shines when they let themselves have fun.

  6. 6

Daily rhythm and craft: routines, work habits, small consistent efforts. The house of getting life in order, one well-kept day at a time.

  7. 7

Partnership territory: marriage, close alliances, open rivals. It describes who a person is drawn to and how they behave one-on-one.

  8. 8

Shared depths: trust, intimacy, joint resources, and profound change. The house where a person learns to let go and be transformed by closeness.

  9. 9

The wide horizon: travel, higher learning, philosophy, faith. Here a person searches for meaning and the big picture behind everyday events.

  10. 10

Public standing: career, reputation, ambition, and legacy. The peak of the chart shows what a person builds in the eyes of the world.

  11. 11

Friendship and the future: communities, ideals, long-term hopes. The house of finding one's people and the causes worth joining.

  12. 12

The inner sanctuary: solitude, dreams, the subconscious. What lives here works behind the scenes — a quiet source of imagination and renewal.

Frequently asked questions

Why is a birth time required for the houses?

Houses turn with the Earth: a full circle a day, which means a shift every ~4 minutes. A half-hour error can move a planet into the next house. Planet signs can be computed without a time; houses cannot.

Which house system is used?

Placidus — the most common in Western astrology and the one the app uses. Other systems (Koch, whole sign) draw slightly different borders — that is normal, schools differ.

Does an empty house mean nothing will happen in that area?

No. There are 10 planets and 12 houses — everyone has empty ones. An empty house simply means the area does not demand constant attention; its flavor is described by the sign on the cusp.

Is the sixth house about illness?

Old textbooks said so, but it reads more honestly as the house of life’s rhythm: routine, everyday work, caring for oneself. Health cannot be predicted from a chart, and we do not try — real health belongs to real professionals.

Calculating the points is astronomy; interpreting them is a symbolic system for self-reflection, not science.

Houses are stages, not the plot

The plot appears when planets, signs and houses are read together. Luna builds the chart from real ephemerides and tells you what matters — no jargon.
