Channel is the method's word for a straight run of three numbers between two points of the chart, and the tail is the channel from the Karma vertex to the golden centre. Both ends already exist in the matrix: Karma is reduce(Day + Month + Year), the Centre is reduce(Day + Month + Year + Karma). “Reduce” means one thing throughout - while a number stands above 22, add its digits.
- Outer number = Karma (the bottom vertex).
- Inner number = reduce(Karma + Centre).
- Middle number = reduce(Karma + inner).
Outer, middle and inner name distance from the centre, not rank. The triple is written in that order: outer · middle · inner.
Worked example: 17.05.1993
The example needs only two of those values, and both come out of the date alone: Karma = 8, the Centre = 7 (each derived step by step in the methodology). What is left is arithmetic:

How to read the triple
“Depth” here is a metaphor for distance from the centre of the figure, not for how true something is:
- Outer (the Karma vertex) - the main lesson: the plot life keeps repeating until the skill is learned. The most important number of the tail.
- Middle - how the lesson shows up in everyday life: the situations and roles it arrives through.
- Inner - the root of the theme and, at the same time, the resource: the strength that opens once the lesson is passed.
And this is where the method stops being arithmetic. A tail is a combination rather than three separate meanings, because the same digit reads differently depending on the two it stands beside. That is why schools keep a table of 23 named combinations instead of a list of 22 values.
No scare tactics
The fear comes from the vocabulary rather than from the method. “Karma” reached English through popular occultism carrying debt and punishment along with it, and “tail” suggests something dragged behind a person; neither idea appears in the calculation, which uses two numbers from a birth date and nothing else. By the system's own logic the tail describes a skill not yet acquired, not guilt, and the heavy arcana that can land here - 13, 15, 16 - are themes of transformation and boundaries, the zones of the largest growth. One boundary of our own: if a triple lands on something genuinely painful, that is a conversation for a person with training, not for a table of meanings.

How do I calculate the karmic tail from a birth date?

No - and the word doing the damage is “karmic”, not the numbers under it. The calculation holds a life task and a personal centre, with no step in it that assigns blame anywhere. No triple is a bad triple; some of them name skills that are still being built.
What do 13, 15 or 16 mean in the tail?
They are read as themes rather than events: change, boundaries and release. Their reputation is borrowed from Tarot imagery, not from this method. In a tail they mark the area asking for attention - the one that returns the most energy once it is worked through.
Why do the tail numbers match other positions of my matrix?
One date feeds every position, so overlap is built into the method rather than a glitch in it. A number appearing twice is a theme turned up, saying the same thing about the character and about the lesson.
