The formula
The tail is the channel from the Karma vertex (the bottom point of the matrix, the sum of all digits of the date) to the golden centre. Every sum is reduced to the 1–22 range: anything above 22 collapses by summing its digits.
- Outer number = Karma (the bottom vertex).
- Inner number = reduce(Karma + Centre).
- Middle number = reduce(Karma + inner).
The triple is written from the edge inward: outer · middle · inner.
Worked example: 17.05.1993
For this date Karma = 8 and the Centre = 7 (both derived step by step in the methodology). Two lines of arithmetic remain:
| Step | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Outer | Karma | 8 — Strength |
| Inner | 8 + 7 = 15 | 15 — Temptation |
| Middle | 8 + 15 = 23 → 2 + 3 | 5 — The Hierophant |
The karmic tail: 8 · 5 · 15. Check your own date in the matrix calculator — the triple of the bottom ray is the tail.
How to read the triple
The three numbers are three depths of one theme, from the visible to the root:
- Outer (the Karma vertex) — the main lesson: the plot life keeps repeating until the skill is learned. The most important number of the tail.
- Middle — how the lesson shows up in everyday life: the situations and roles it arrives through.
- Inner — the root of the theme and, at the same time, the resource: the strength that opens once the lesson is passed.
Important: a tail is read as a combination, not three separate values — the same digit means different things in different triples. The schools keep a table of named combinations (there are 23), where every triple is its own story.
No scare tactics
The frightening pitch — “payback for the sins of a past life” — is the most common mistake around this topic. By the system's own logic the tail describes a skill not yet acquired, not guilt. Heavy arcana in the tail (13, 15, 16) are themes of transformation and boundaries — the zones of the biggest growth: that is exactly where the most visible resource appears once the theme is worked through. The tail does not punish — it points where to grow.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate the karmic tail from a birth date?
Take Karma (the sum of all digits of the date, reduced to 1–22) and the Centre of the matrix. Inner = Karma + Centre, middle = Karma + inner; anything above 22 is reduced by summing its digits. The triple “outer · middle · inner” is the tail.
Is the karmic tail a bad thing?
No. It describes the main lesson of this life and the resource behind it. There are no “bad” triples — only themes where the skill is still being built.
What do 13, 15 or 16 mean in the tail?
These are the arcana of change, boundaries and liberation — the strongest growth zones. In the tail they mark the theme that asks for attention and, once worked through, returns the most energy.
Why do the tail numbers match other positions of my matrix?
Every position is derived from the same digits of the date, so repeats are natural. A repeated arcana is an amplified theme: it sounds both in the character and in the lesson.

What your own tail means
A tail is read as one story, not three separate digits: the schools keep a table of named tail combinations, and Luna knows it in full. She will calculate your triple and tell its story — through growth, without labels.
