Which of these are supermoons, and how often do they come?
Three of the twenty-five full moons of 2026 and 2027 fall inside the line usually drawn for a supermoon - 361,863 km, which is 90 % of the way from apogee to perigee - and all three run back to back: 24 November 2026 at 360,765 km, 24 December 2026 at 356,738 km (the closest of the twenty-five) and 22 January 2027 at 357,644 km. Consecutive is the normal pattern rather than a coincidence: the nearest point of the orbit and the full phase line up again every 411.8 days, about 13.9 lunar months, so supermoons arrive in a cluster roughly once a year and then not at all for many months. The size gap is real and small: 33.5 arcminutes across against 29.4 for the most distant full moon here, some 1.3× the area. One honest note on the word itself: supermoon is not an astronomical term and has no official definition, which is why different calendars count a different number of them.
