The single operation of the whole method: a number is brought into the range 1–22 (one per Major Arcana). While it is greater than 22, its digits are added.
reduce(29) = 2 + 9 = 11 · reduce(1993 → 1+9+9+3 = 22) = 22 ·

The ancestral square
Each corner of the straight square is the reduced sum of two ADJACENT personal corners.

The channel rule — the core of the deep sections
Every “ray” section uses one rule. A channel from vertex V to target T is three numbers:
inner = reduce(V + T)
middle = reduce(V + inner)
channel(V, T) = [V, middle, inner]
Cardinal channels (personality) run to the centre E, diagonal ones (ancestry) — to the month vertex B.

Arcana of time
Year: reduce(day + month + personal year). The personal year starts on the birthday, not on January 1. Month: reduce(year arcana + month number). Day: reduce(month arcana + day number). Try it on today’s date with the arcana calculator.
Couple compatibility
Each date gets its own matrix; matching positions are added and reduced into a shared matrix of the couple, which yields three arcana (relationship, merging, harmony). The formula is symmetric — the order of dates makes no difference. Control: 17.05.1993 + 24.12.1992 → 22 / 8 / 3. Verify with the couple calculator.
Where schools differ — an honest list
The method exists in several traditions that do not agree on details. We state our choices openly:
- Arcana of the year/month/day: some schools count from the calendar year, some from the personal one. We count from the personal year (from the birthday).
- Numbering of 8 and 11: Strength and Justice swap places between decks. We use the numbering where 8 is Strength and 11 is Justice.
- Targets of the diagonal channels: checked against reference calculations — ancestry runs to the month vertex B, not to the centre.
The method itself is a symbolic system for self-reflection, not science: the arithmetic is exact, the predictions are not.
