Haircut moon calendar

The tradition picks a haircut day by the Moon: the phase stands for how fast hair grows back, the sign for the character of the day. Moon positions here are computed with Swiss Ephemeris — same engine as our moon calendar; the rules are folklore, and we say so plainly.

The rules of the tradition

The core most schools share (details differ between schools):

  • Waxing Moon — a cut “for growth”: hair, by the folk rule, grows back faster.
  • Waning — the shape holds longer, growth is calmer.
  • New moon and full moon — the tradition skips cutting.
  • Leo and Virgo — the most favourable signs; Taurus, Capricorn, Libra — good ones.
  • Cancer and Pisces — the tradition advises against.

Honestly, about what these rules are

There is no research linking the Moon’s phase to hair growth — this is folklore, not dermatology. What is real here: the Moon’s position for every day (phase, sign, exact new and full moons) — the same Swiss Ephemeris calculation used across this section. We show both the data and the rules; the choice of day is yours. A haircut on an “unfavourable” day will not harm your hair.
