LunaOphiuchus is a real constellation
Ophiuchus, the Serpent Bearer, is a large constellation between Scorpius and Sagittarius, one of the 88 official ones. The ecliptic — the Sun's yearly path across the sky — genuinely runs through it: by the constellation borders adopted by the International Astronomical Union, the Sun moves in front of Ophiuchus roughly from November 30 to December 17.
That is an astronomical fact, and there is nothing to argue with. The real question is whether it means the zodiac gained a thirteenth sign. It does not — here is why.
Why there are 12 signs, not 13
A zodiac sign and a constellation are different things. Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac: the circle the Sun completes in a year is divided into 12 equal sectors of 30°, counted from the spring equinox. That circle is anchored to the seasons, not to the stars behind the Sun.
Constellations, on the other hand, are sky areas of arbitrary shape and size: astronomers drew their borders in 1930 for the sake of star maps. The ecliptic crosses thirteen of them, and the Sun spends unequal time in each — about a week in some, over a month in others. The signs took their names from constellations two thousand years ago, but the system itself has always rested on equal sectors — so there is simply nowhere to “add” Ophiuchus.

No. The story “astronomers added a 13th sign and all the dates shifted” resurfaces every few years, and every time it grows from the same seed: an educational note about constellations retold as breaking news about astrology.
