How the line of love is built

The points come from two values the matrix already holds: karma - again, the name of a position rather than a sentence passed on anyone - and the centre. Each step adds two numbers and reduces the total back into 1–22:

lower = reduce(karma + centre)
right = reduce(year + centre)
crossing = reduce(lower + right)
line centre = reduce(lower + crossing)

Two of those names carry meaning that the arithmetic does not show. Crossing is where this chain meets the money line; line centre is the value read as the partner. Nothing is dealt or drawn along the way - one date always yields the same four results.

Worked example

For 17.05.1993 the line comes out as 15 – 5 – 8, with the partner at arcana 5. Each arcana is covered on the 22 arcana page.

The three are read from the middle outward rather than left to right: the centre value is the portrait of the partner, the outer value is the pattern brought into relationships, and the crossing is the shared point. The order is not decorative - the names are not interchangeable, and a post that quotes one of these numbers as “your relationship number” has dropped the other two.

Why the crossing is shared with money

The crossing belongs to both the line of love and the money code, and that overlap is designed into the method rather than a fault in it: both lines start from the same two values, so they are bound to meet. What the overlap does not assert is a cause - the figure states an adjacency, nothing more, and neither side is driving the other. For many people it does chime with the observation that financial and personal crises arrive together.

Four questions the line cannot answer

People arrive at this page with a specific question far more often than with a general one, so it is worth being exact about which questions the arithmetic cannot reach at all.

When. No position in the matrix carries a date. The numbers are derived from a birth date and never change, so nothing in them can point at a year, a season or an age.

Who. No position carries a name, an initial, a nationality or a look. A reading that produces those is producing them from somewhere other than the calculation.

Whether he will come back. This asks about another person's future behaviour. The line is built from your birth date only; the other person is not in the input at all.

How compatible, as a number. There is no percentage in the method. Two matrices can be compared position by position, which gives themes to talk about, not a score.

What the matrix does not say about marriage

There is no number that names a wedding date, and no position that answers whether someone will marry at all. That is a limit of the method rather than an omission on this page: the only input is a birth date, and a birth date contains no future. The line of love describes a repeating pattern instead - who a person chooses, and where the relationship usually trips.

Compatibility of a specific couple is a different calculation: it takes two dates at once and builds a third figure out of them, which is why it cannot be read off one person’s line - and why it produces arcana rather than a score out of a hundred. See compatibility.

The same limit answers the question that usually follows: the matrix has no number for children either, and pages that offer one are renaming an ordinary position.
