Thirteen or fourteen, and why it wobbles
At one sign every 2.28 days, thirty days should hold 13.2 crossings. The 0.2 is the interesting part. Whether a month shows thirteen or fourteen depends on whether one extra boundary slips inside its first or last hours, and September 2026 catches one while October, a day longer, catches none. Over the two years behind this table the Moon enters a new sign 320 times and no sequence of months repeats exactly. For the haircut list this is the reason a favoured run can be three dates in one month and five in another with nothing in the sky having changed. September's run is a short one: the 8th, the 9th and the 10th.
