How one sign fits into a month twice
The consequence is a list of eight dates - the 1st to the 5th and the 28th to the 30th - which is the largest count in this calendar. The shape of it is misleading, because those are not eight days of one condition but two separate visits twenty-seven days apart: on the 1st the Moon is past full and shrinking, and by the 28th it has completed a lap of the zodiac and a full turn of phase and is shrinking again. A tradition that distinguishes waxing from waning therefore reads both visits the same way, and it happens that November keeps them both on the waning side. The waxing half of the month, the 10th to the 25th, runs from Sagittarius to Gemini and contains neither favoured sign.
